Choosing a packaging machine involves more than comparing specifications. The right decision starts with understanding your product, your packaging format, and how different machine families serve different production needs. This guide walks through the three key factors to consider before selecting equipment.

Start with Your Product

Every packaging project begins with understanding the product itself. The physical characteristics of your product — whether it is a free-flowing powder, a viscous liquid, or an irregular granule — directly determine which filling technology will deliver accurate and reliable results. Powders such as flour typically require auger fillers for consistent dosing. Liquids such as sauces perform best with piston or gear-pump filling systems. Granules such as coffee beans are well suited to multi-head weighers that combine speed with accuracy. Before considering machine types or bag formats, take time to fully characterise your product.

Choose the Right Bag Style

Packaging appearance is more than aesthetics. Each bag style requires a different machine structure and sealing method, which directly influences the overall packaging solution. Common formats include three-side seal sachets for single-serve portions, four-side seal pouches for extra barrier protection, pillow bags for high-speed snack and grain applications, stand-up pouches for retail shelf presentation, and zipper pouches for consumer resealability. The bag style you choose determines whether you need a sachet packing machine, a VFFS machine, or a premade pouch filling and sealing system.

Match the Right Machine Family

Once you have defined your product characteristics and chosen a bag style, the next step is matching your requirements to the right machine family.
